অভিযোগ অনুযায়ী, শুক্রবার ১৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি রাত ১১টার দিকে চানন্দী ইউনিয়নের ৯ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের ধানসিঁড়ি আশ্রয়ণ প্রকল্পে কয়েকজন ব্যক্তি তাঁর ঘরে ঢুকে তাঁর স্বামীকে বেঁধে ফেলে এবং NCP-কে ভোট দেওয়ার অভিযোগে তাঁকে পাশবিক নির্যাতন চালায়। শনিবার বিকেলে তাঁকে নোয়াখালী জেনারেল হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে এবং চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন তাঁর চিকিৎসা চলছে।

এদেশের প্রতিটি নাগরিকের অধিকার আছে স্বাধীনভাবে ভোট দেওয়ার এবং কোনো ভয়ভীতি বা সহিংসতা ছাড়াই নিজের পছন্দের প্রার্থীকে সমর্থন করার। কেউ ভোট দেওয়ার কারণে কাউকে আঘাত করার অধিকার রাখে না।
আগামীকাল আমি সাক্ষাতে বিএনপি চেয়ারম্যানকে অত্যন্ত কঠোর ভাষায় জানাবো যে- তাঁর দলের ভেতর থেকে এই ধরনের আচরণ দমনে আরও অনেক বেশি কঠোর হতে হবে। নেতৃত্ব মানেই হলো শৃঙ্খলা এবং জবাবদিহিতা।
আমাদের রাষ্ট্রীয় প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর মাধ্যমেই ন্যায়বিচার নিশ্চিত করতে হবে- দৃঢ়ভাবে, দ্রুত এবং কোনো ভয় বা পক্ষপাত ছাড়াই।
I am truly lost for words. In Hatiya, Noakhali, a 32-year-old mother of three has alleged that she was raped after casting her vote for the National Citizen Party. According to the complaint, several individuals entered her home at the Dhanshidi Ashrayan Project in Ward No. 9 of Chanandi Union at around 11:00 pm on Friday, 13 February, tied up her husband and assaulted her, allegedly accusing her of voting for that party. She was admitted on Saturday afternoon to the Noakhali General Hospital, where Dr Mostafizur Rahman confirmed that she is receiving treatment and that the police have been informed.
Throughout my entire campaign, I gave my word that there would be no politics of revenge and that the rule of law is not optional, it is foundational. What has been reported is not politics, it is lawlessness and it must end immediately. Every citizen of this country has an absolute right to vote freely and to choose whom they support without fear, intimidation or violence. That right is sacred and no individual, group or party has the authority to punish someone for exercising it.
I have spoken directly with the victim and her family and I am heartbroken by what they have endured. I will personally convey, in the strongest possible terms, to the Chairman of the BNP that far more must be done to curb such behaviour from within his ranks. Leadership demands discipline and accountability. We cannot and will not allow a culture to take hold where citizens feel compelled to defend themselves outside the law. Justice must be delivered through our institutions, firmly, swiftly and without fear or favour.
